With increasing focus on field development and longer tie backs, First Subsea's range of self-energising, diverless bend stiffener connectors are enabling operators to perform faster and safer installations of flexible risers and umbilicals to 'crowded' platforms, FPSOs and Buoys.
DBSC - Safe Installation, Time and Cost Savings
Developed in collaboration with Trelleborg Offshore, First Subsea offers two types of DBSC based on its industry leading, ball and taper connection technology:
Type I allows installation of umbilicals and risers to existing 'I' and 'J' tubes, without the need for diver intervention.
Type II uses full ball and taper connectivity with a dedicated female receptacle. This DBSC is intended for installations where the compact, pre-machined, female receptacle is fixed to the 'I' or 'J' tube during the FPSO or buoys structural fabrication stage, for example.
Both the Type I and standard Type II (with tip clamp) DBSCs require some level of ROV intervention.
ROV-less DBSC Installation
First Subsea now offers the Type II with ROV-less installation for 'crowded' platforms and FPSOs where space is either limited or shallow water, splash zone, environments make a ROV impractical.
The Type II DBSC with a Weak Link disconnection system is designed to release the end fitting once the male DBSC has engaged within the female receptacle.
The Type II DBSC with an Automatic Release Clamp (ARC) disconnection system is attached to the riser end fitting and, once engaged with the female receptacle, uses a system of springs and dogs to release the end fitting from the DBSC. In addition, ARC’s may be reset and re-used if required.
